Do I need a new agency?

All agencies are not the same.

For the most part, every agency will tell you they have the capabilities to do anything. And, that’s true. Radio, TV, print, outdoor, direct mail and digital are the six channels that all media falls into, and anyone can find providers for each and bring them in as client needs arise. Good idea if you’re trying to save on overhead. Bad idea if you want control over the quality of your output.

Expertise isn’t free. Neither is Google. But it’s not always a question of how much you spend. Often, it’s a question of how you spend. Most agencies show up ready to push your expense per car higher before doing any data analysis. That works for them. What works for you is finding the secret sauce for your brand, your market, your inventory.

In the car business, agencies preferred by an OEM treat everyone the same. Does that sound like a competitive differentiator? A templated approach for huge numbers of dealers may sound like a good idea, but it’s not really creative if it's not–creative. OEMs are focused on addressing their own needs. Surprised?
